Workouts include a variety of exercises that focus on functional movements that includes strength, balance, mobility, power and cardio with several options for modifications to align with your fitness level. It’s recommended to speak with your healthcare professional to know if an exercise program is right for you.

HELLO AND WELCOME, 
I'M JANINE

I’m the owner and instructor for Wise Moves Fitness. I started this fitness business to serve a population that is so incredibly significant, but yet under reached. 

 

I've been working as a fitness instructor for people 50+ since 2017. I have a deep passion to help them lead a strong and active life so they can experience more confidence and enjoyment during their retirement years.     

 

I am currently certified as a Functional Aging Specialist for both individual and group training aimed specifically towards the 50+ population.  The functional aging model consists of the 6 domains of physical function: 1. Balance 2. Mobility 3.Cognitive/Emotional 4. Neuromuscular 5.Musculoskeletal  6. Cardio-Respiratory.

A variety of these domains are incorporated into each class ensuring you receive important functional movement patterns each time. 

 

Like most fitness trainers, I do this because I care about the health and wellness of others and strive to do my best in bringing quality exercises that serve a purpose for my members.  I love being able to share my experiences and knowledge with my members and any others I may cross paths with. I especially love hearing about their success stories whether big or small!  Check out some of their stories at the bottom of the page!! 

 I consider it a privilege to be a part of your fitness journey in helping to improve or maintain your quality of life so you can continue to enjoy the things you love to do.

 My class options make it easy to suite your preferences! Live online classes are available for those who don't live in my area or just enjoy working out from home.

 

If you’re a social butterfly and connecting with other people gets you motivated, then the in-person classes are for you! Whichever you choose, you’ll be getting quality instruction that focuses on safe yet effective exercises that will help keep you moving confidently for many years to come.

“KEEPS ME FIT AND LIMBER”

I have been a member of  Wise Moves Fitness since its inception.  At 72 years of age, and as someone with arthritis and other degenerative conditions, I credit this class with keeping me fit and limber. 
 
 I very much appreciate the fact that Janine suggests modifications to the exercises  for those of us in the class with limitations such as stiff knees, hip replacements, stiff shoulders, etc.  She makes the class fun and introduces us to new exercises on a regular basis.  I would recommend this class, without hesitation, to anyone over 50 who would like to stay as mobile as possible and have fun doing it.

  • Clear and precise explanations about each move – to be sure the exercise is done correctly 

  • Explanations about the purpose of each exercise - what muscles and movements are being worked on and why 

  • Options for alternative moves that alleviate specific medical issues such as hip, knee, shoulder, etc. 

  • Encouraging narrative and music

“Since I have joined Janine’s classes I have noticed a remarkable difference in my strength, mobility and balance.  I am able to get up and down from a ladder to put my Christmas  lights up, can climb a step ladder to clean light fixtures, I can easily go up and down stairs and much more. I do my own yard work and snow shovelling and I

don’t think this would be possible without the classes. Janine offers modifications to exercises for those of us that need modifications and I really like the way that this class focuses on strength, mobility and balance. I want to be able to keep putting those outdoor lights up at Xmas for years to come and these classes are contributing to make this possible. I notice a big difference in my balance as well.

Muscle strength, flexibility and range of motion often take a back seat to aerobics these days.  BUT, as we age they become more important than ever. 
 
Janine’s knowledge, patience and intentional instruction has worked to increase my strength, range of motion and flexibility.  The most obvious results are that I can, once again, bend over to pick things off the ground without pain, and I can put my socks on while standing up.
